What is a vivah muhurat?
A vivah muhurat is a day and time window when the Moon's nakshatra, the tithi, the yoga, the karana and the Sun's position all meet the classical rules for a Hindu wedding. Families usually fix the wedding date from this list first, then book the venue.
How the 2026 dates are chosen
Nakshatra. Only 11 nakshatras are accepted for marriage: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. The first quarter (pada) of Magha and Mula and the last quarter of Revati are left out because they touch gandanta, the junction between water and fire signs.
Tithi, yoga and karana. Every tithi is allowed except Krishna Chaturdashi and Amavasya. The window must avoid the nine inauspicious yogas (Vishkambha, Atiganda, Shula, Ganda, Vyaghata, Vajra, Vyatipata, Parigha, Vaidhriti), Vishti karana (Bhadra) and the four fixed karanas.
Sun, Guru and Shukra. Weddings are held only while the Sun is in Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna, Tula, Vrishchika, Makara or Kumbha. Kharmas (Sun in Dhanu or Meena) and the three monsoon solar months (Karka, Simha, Kanya) are out, and so are Chaturmas, Adhik Maas and any day when Jupiter (Guru) or Venus (Shukra) is combust (asta) — too close to the Sun to be seen.
In 2026 the nakshatras that give the most dates are Hasta (8), Swati (8), Uttara Phalguni (7). All windows start and end at the exact moment a nakshatra, tithi, yoga or karana changes, so they are given to the minute.
Tips
- Book early for the busiest month in the table — popular dates fill venues months ahead.
- A window that runs past midnight belongs to the date it starts on; the pheras can take place in the late-night part.
- Your family priest may also match the couple's horoscopes and check the bride's and groom's Chandrabalam and Tarabalam for the chosen day — those are personal and not part of this list.
The dates are checked against Drik Panchang: for 2026–27, 99.8% of our windows match and none of theirs is missing. See how we calculate.
Frequently asked questions
How many marriage dates are there in 2026?
There are 59 marriage dates in 2026 for New Delhi, from 5 February (Thursday) to 12 December (Saturday). February has the most (12), and January, August, September, October have none.
Which 2026 marriage dates fall on a weekend?
15 of them: 8 February (Sunday), 14 February (Saturday), 21 February (Saturday), 7 March (Saturday), 8 March (Sunday), 25 April (Saturday), 26 April (Sunday), 3 May (Sunday), 21 June (Sunday), 27 June (Saturday), 11 July (Saturday), 21 November (Saturday), 5 December (Saturday), 6 December (Sunday), 12 December (Saturday).
Why are there no weddings in some months?
Because one of the blocking rules is active: Kharmas (the Sun in Dhanu or Meena), Chaturmas, Adhik Maas, or Guru or Shukra being combust. The table of blocked periods on this page shows which rule closes which dates this year.
Are these dates the same in every city?
Nearly. The nakshatra and tithi change at the same moment everywhere, but the windows are cut at local sunrise, so a window can start or end a few minutes differently and, rarely, a date can move. Times here are for New Delhi; open the muhurat tool to see your own city.
Is a Saturday or Tuesday wedding allowed?
Yes. The marriage rules this list follows do not restrict the weekday, so every weekday appears when the other conditions are met.
